Iran Says Contains Oil Spill on Gulf Coast
TEHRAN, Iran, December 23, 1998 - Iranian authorities have contained an oil spill which occurred two weeks ago when an oil tanker collided with a port jetty, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported on Monday.
It quoted Behzad Saeidpour, head of a local environmental protection agency, as saying the 100-tonne leak on December 6 had polluted waters outside Bandar Abbas port but had been prevented from approaching a power plant and a refinery in the area.
Saeidpour said the leak occured after an Iranian carrier with 60,000 tonnes of crude collided with the jetty, IRNA said.
IRNA did not give any other details.
