Second journalist arrested in two days
TEHRAN, Iran, April 23, 2000 (AFP) - The head of the banned pro-reform Iranian newspaper Neshat, Latif Safari, was imprisoned on Sunday, the second journalist to be jailed here in two days.
Safari, who was sentenced to two and half years in prison last year, is a close ally of President Mohammad Khatami.
His jailing follows a court rejection of the appeal against the sentence.
Leading investigative journalist Akbar Ganji, a thorn in the side of the regime's conservatives, was imprisoned on Saturday.
